Roman & Venetian Plasters
- Italian Marmorino
An opulent wall and ceiling finish with roots in the villas of ancient Pompeii. Marmorino is refined yet alive—its surface burnishes to a luminous glow that shifts with the light, evolving over time into a rich, timeworn patina.
- Carrara Plaster
Crafted from aged, slaked lime blended with white or blue-gray marble from the Carrara quarries of Tuscany, this finish is monolithic, and profoundly luxurious. Found in the Vatican and the grand interiors of restored Renaissance palazzos, Carrara plaster embodies quiet opulence and enduring legacy.
- Stucco Lucido / Grassello
The pinnacle of Venetian plaster artistry. This luminous blend of marble dust and lime, known for its glass-smooth finish, is synonymous with architectural elegance. Mirror-polished to catch and reflect light like cut stone, stucco lucido graces the walls of Venice’s finest palaces—and was favored by the modernist master Carlo Scarpa in many of his iconic works.
- Tadelakt
An ancient Moroccan lime plaster whose name—tadelakt—means "to rub" or "to caress." Crafted from natural lime and fine sand, this sensuous material is burnished with olive soap and polished smooth with a river stone, yielding a surface that is both waterproof and breathable. Its soft, undulating finish evokes the architecture of North Africa, where it has long adorned the hammams, riads, and palaces of Marrakech. Ideal for wet areas such as baths, vanities, and steam rooms, tadelakt is equally stunning on walls, ceilings, and floors—its silky, organic texture transforming any space into a sanctuary.

ABOUT US
Écho Plasterworks LLC is a father-and-son studio of artists based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Both William Hudson Temples (W. Hudson) and his son Casey are classically trained fine artists, graduates of the internationally acclaimed Savannah College of Art and Design.
What began as a way for W. Hudson to support his painting practice—applying centuries-old plaster techniques—has, over time, evolved into a full-time calling. Today, the Temples work side by side, channeling their shared artistry into luxurious finishes for bespoke homes and businesses across the Carolinas and beyond.
Their craft has grown beyond plaster to include architectural casting, concrete acid staining, and the luminous art of gilded glass, or verre églomisé—each technique an echo of old-world beauty reimagined through a modern lens.
The écho in Écho Plasterworks comes from Écho D’Terre—echoes of the earth. It’s a poetic nod to our materials, which are born of the earth itself. Our plasters begin with organic limestone. This limestone is formed from ancient sea life, pressed and transformed by the immense weight of oceans over countless centuries.
Once quarried, the stone is aged in vats, its transformation slow and deliberate, until it’s ready to be blended with natural aggregates like sand, marble dust, and hide glue. These ingredients come together to form luxurious plasters—like the famed Italian Carrara, named for the Tuscan town where its signature marble is sourced.
At Écho Plasterworks, we work with these time-honored materials, including Italian imports like marmorino and grassello, to craft luminous, tactile surfaces. But our palette extends beyond Italy—we also source rare and storied finishes from around the world: Moroccan tadelakt and others. Each one an echo, each one a whisper of place, time, and earth.
